Thankful for Visions Unlimited

Published: Wednesday, December 9, 2009 9:25 AM CST
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Visions Unlimited Academy! I want to thank all the teachers, volunteers and staff for doing such a great job in caring for and educating my children. I have been a home-schooling mother for 18 years. Last year my husband and I decided to place five of our children in a charter school. I was a bit anxious and with much trepidation I called the school office to set up an appointment for an interview. I visited with Richard Valentine (the founder and school principal) and Gretchen Liebe. They answered all our questions professionally and with compassion. They put our minds at ease about our many concerns. I was worried that my children would not be able to adjust to a public school classroom setting, or that they may receive criticism or teasing for being behind academically. I was concerned that my very over-active 5-year-old James would not be able to settle down in a classroom. I was concerned that our family's beliefs and values would not be understood or supported. I was so very pleasantly surprised and very pleased with the results of placing my children in Visions. My children have thrived at Visions. My two children who were behind in their scholastics were caught up to the appropriate grade level by the end of the year. My 5-year-old was expertly handled by his then teacher, Windy Parman. I have been amazed at the level of dedication and hard work that I have seen from Ms. Toi Bowen Smith, Ms. Sandra Cornejo, Ms. Willow Hoaglund and last year Ms. Windy Parman, whom we miss because she moved away to Tennessee. You ladies deserve all the praise; you have all impressed me immensely.

Thank you Visions for being a blessing to our family.

" Wow, what a great letter. 18 years of home schooling! What dedication and pioneer spirit! Can't help but admire and respect the kindness, tenacity, and intelligence, insight, and mental toughness required to do that. I'm sure Rebecca Coleman would thrived in 1869 as well as she is in 2009.

I hope people at Visions read this, because school employees rarely get the kind of feedback that lets them know how appreciated and thankful parents are for the remarkable service and dedication ordinary teachers provide as a normal part of their everyday work day. The world is full of needs that teachers take care of. Amazing. "
